We have an opening for Survey Assistant who will be assisting survey teams in both setup and QC functions.  Because of this exposure to technical work the right candidate could have opportunities for advancement if they showed the basic skill set, work ethic, and intellect.


The qualified candidate performs multiple tasks as a laborer and survey assistant - the position is a combination of the two.  The position could perform survey activities with both office work and field work.  The position provides technical review of survey maps, documents, and plans.  The position could also performs laborers like digging trenches, level dirt and gravel, cleaning tools and equipment, moving and transferring from job to job as projects progress, and other general labor work.


  • Performs; field surveys, including staking, boundary control, horizontal and vertical controls, hydrographic, topographic and environmental surveys.
  • Ensures the integration of field data and records into completed maps, plats, drawings and records.
  • Assumes charge of survey equipment and charge of equipment maintenance and inventory.
  • Sets up, operates and adjusts all types of survey equipment, including level, transit and GPS equipment.
  • Assist in making calculations of areas, locations, elevations using appropriate math.
  • Prepares and reviews maps, drawings, sketches, plats and simple reports from field notes and makes recommendations.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles
  • Have the ability and wiliness to learn strong survey skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Perform Quality Control (QC) tasks in multiple areas.
  • Perform general laborer duties as required.


  • Be willing to be a general laborer (hard physically labor work, dirty work, outside work, etc.) along with being a survey assistant.
  • Quality Control (QC) skills and abilities - attention to details and being willing to double check work.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be willing and able to travel to different job sites.
  • Be willing to be flexible working at different time when required (i.e. summer time we have project that the survey assistant will need to start early in the morning or late at night)
  • Good Math skills, calculations skills
  • Good technical skills (operating a computer, proficient in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Have the aptitude and wiliness to learn survey programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of Construction Software, Survey Programs is preferred.  
  • High school Degree or GED - Associate Degree is a plus
